For those willing to brave the traffic, the City of Pismo Beach will host its annual Fourth of July Independence Day celebration. The reconstruction of the Pismo Beach Pier will not hamper this year’s event. As with previous years, fireworks will be launched from the pier. The City continues to offer VIP seating for those wanting to see the light display close enough to feel the heat on their faces.
For $30, attendees can sit on the first pier diamond as bombs are rocketed into the night sky from the pier’s third and fourth diamond shaped sections. Traditionally, people who took advantage of the theater seating received snacks and hot cocoa to warm them on those chilly Pismo nights, but this year for the first time, for an additional $20, patrons can enjoy a BBQ dinner catered by F. McLintocks Saloon & Dining House. The meal includes a tri-tip sandwich, beans and coleslaw. Dinner and a show!
Patrons can view the light show from the Pismo Pier parking lot and surrounding beach areas free of charge. The lot and the Pismo promenade will host approximately 25 vendors from around the area. Among those enlisted are Crave Mini Donuts, Hanohano Shave Ice, Jane’s Kettlekorn and Hurricane Kitchen.
Every year Pismo swells to house roughly 100,000 people for the festivities. For many, the notorious traffic can be a deciding factor for those wishing to celebrate and still get home at a reasonable hour. Executive Director of Pismo Beach Conference and Visitor Bureau, Gordon Jackson, said that the City does not have any plans to shuttle or bus people into town. He also said that there are 17-miles of beach available to view the airborne explosions and that there is plenty of parking for those who do not mind a walk. He suggested that there are alternate ways of getting to the pier without driving.
“You can Uber-in in front of the Visitors Information Center,” said Jackson. “It’s a great place to drop off. You walk two blocks, and you’re at the beach. “
The Inn at the Pier, a new resort in downtown Pismo Beach that celebrated its grand opening on February 1, 2018, offers patrons to view the fireworks from its rooftop bar with its Red, White and Brew July Fourth Celebration. From 6 to 11 p.m. guests can enjoy unlimited champagne, cocktails, wine, beer, and BBQ as DJ Sparx lays down sick tracks. Admission is $200 a person and attendees need to be 21 years or older. The venue offers an excellent view of the Pismo light show as the crowds “party like its 1776.”
