Lucille Ball was sighted doing some grape stomping at the Wyndham Residence in Arroyo Grande. A scene from one of the most popular “I Love Lucy” episodes where the gang goes to Rome took home first place honors in the creativity division for the annual Harvest Festival Scarecrow Contest.
Activities coordinators April Mcclaskey and Jerri Kendrick decided to recreate the scene after showing the episode to residents who loved the show.
“They were so happy that we won,” said Mcclaskey. “When we were building it, they said we would win first place. They came and gave us hugs.”
Following the theme of the Harvest Festival, Harvesting Happiness, a tree was placed in the entryway of the independent and assisted living facility where folks could hang notes of what makes them happy. The hand written notes included being active, petting a puppy and playing bingo among others, which Kendrick and Mcclaskey always try to deliver on.
“That’s our job to make them happy,” said Kendrick.
Wyndham Residence is located at 6012, 222 S Elm St, Arroyo Grande. The display will be up through the end of the month.
