The Seventh Annual Surfing for Hope event took place on October 5 & 6, kicking off with a memorial paddle out in Avila Beach. People effected by cancer joined in remembering and honoring those who have passed away from the disease.
On Saturday, the longboard surf contest brought together surfers of all ages. Contenders and attendees enjoyed the cancer resource health fair, providing support, education and help to those currently going through the cancer experience.
All proceeds from Surfing for Hope 2018, with French Hospital serving as the presenting sponsor, benefit the Surfing for Hope Foundation in San Luis Obispo. Since 2012, the foundation has raised more than $250,000 to support and assist cancer patients and their families; 2017 beneficiaries included the Pure Stoke Youth Program and several local cancer resources for those currently battling cancer.
