Turkey Trot Donates to Food Bank

The South County Turkey Trot team is making plans for the 6th Annual Trot this coming Thanksgiving morning!  Earlier this year the Turkey Trot team presented a check to the SLO County Food Bank Coalition for $13,000 dollars, which was raised from the 5th Annual Turkey Trot making it their largest donation benefiting the SLO Food Bank to date.

The South County Turkey Trot is a team/committee of 9 South County individuals who organize this event annually in honor of Christine Allen and as a fundraiser for the SLO Food Bank. There are another 20 volunteers that help the day of the event. The 5th Annual South County Turkey Trot drew more than 3,000 runners to Pismo Beach. The Grover Beach 5Cities Rotary club acted as the groups ‘fiduciary’ for insurance and permits.

The benefactor, the Food Bank Coalition is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization, serving San Luis Obispo County residents who face hunger. Their mission is to work with a network of community partners to alleviate hunger in San Luis Obispo County and build a healthier community. Last year the Food Bank distributed 5.7 million pounds of food, nearly half of which was fresh produce.
